Great Locations for Weddings in September

Where are some of the best wedding destinations in September? You have many wonderful choices, of course, but below you'll find some ideas of some of the best locations for weddings in September.

Willamette Valley, Oregon

The Willamette Valley in Oregon is a great place to visit in September, and a wonderful place for a destination wedding. Wine drinkers know the area for incredible Pinot Noirs; it’s also a romantic vineyard setting for weddings. Many wineries offer their grounds for wedding venues. One standout includes Chateau Lorane, with 200 wooded acres and a 24-acre lake. They can accommodate up to 300 people. Their website is www.chateaulorane.com

Another fabulous Willamette Valley venue for our wedding in September is Wine Country Farm in the McMinnville area, which is a winery as well as a bed and breakfast. Wine country Farm has the distinction of being mentioned in the book, "1000 Places to See Before You Die" by Patricia Schultz. With romantic horse-drawn carriages and an outdoor pavilion for dancing, it's also a wonderful place for your wedding. You can get more info by going to their website at www.winecountryfarm.com

Venice, Italy

September is one of the best months to visit Venice. And, what could be more romantic than saying "I do" on a gondola, gliding along the canals of Venice? WeddingsinItaly.com can help you find the most romantic spots in Italy, from gondolas to villas to old churches.

Asheville, North Carolina

Asheville used to be a secret. But, thankfully, the secret's out that Asheville is a great location for a vacation or destination wedding. Situated in the western part of North Carolina, amid the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountain ranges, Asheville is the place to go for outdoor adventure, southern hospitality, history, or just plain taking in the natural beauty of the mountains.

For a fabulous wedding venue, check out the Biltmore Estate, an 8,000 acre estate which boasts such wedding venues as the Stable courtyard and Gardens, where the bride can arrive in a horse-drawn carriage, or the intimate champagne cellar for smaller weddings under 30. Go to Biltmore.com/weddings for more details.

Another fabulous Asheville wedding venue is Homewood, a 1920s castle turned special events and conference center, which features hardwood floors, 20-foot ceilings and Appalachian stone fireplaces. You can go to their website at www.mybelovedhomewood.com for more information.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe, New Mexico is the place to go if you want to explore galleries. Santa Fe has tons of them. And it's also a place to find wonderful Native American art and jewelry. And then there's the fabulous southwest food! But, for couples wanting a unique wedding venue, Santa Fe also boasts the Loretto Chapel, which has been consistently called "the best place to get married" by the Santa Fe Reporter's "Best of Santa Fe."

What makes the Loretto Chapel noteworthy is its "miraculous" staircase to the choir loft. It has two 360-degree turns and no visible means of support. That may not seem like a big deal, but it is. Then there's the mystery of who built the staircase. Nobody really knows the identity of the stranger who came into town and built the staircase, but legend has it that he was none other than St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters. For more info on having your wedding at the Loretto Chapel, go to their website at www.lorettochapel.com

Vancouver Island, British Columbia

Vancouver Island is the largest island on the west coast of North America, and a simply awesome place to visit. But, don't take our word for it. Vancouver Island has earned many accolades throughout the years from such sources as Conde Nast Travel Magazine and Travel + Leisure Magazine, often being ranked the No. 1 North American Island and one of the top 10 islands in the world!

From the temperate rainforest of Tofino to the lush gardens and European flair of Victoria, Vancouver Island offers much for couples wanting a fabulous wedding in September. Of course, the spring months are wonderful with gardens bursting with color (and, yes, Vancouver Island will also be on our list for the Spring months as well) but September is also a great month to visit the island.

One standout wedding venue includes Merridale Ciderworks, located about 50 minutes north of Victoria, where couples can have their ceremony in the middle of their orchard or by the side of their pond. Go to www.merridalecider.com for more details.

You may also want to check out the many different garden venues in Victoria for your wedding, such as the Mayo Creek Gardens and Hatley Park.

Catalina Island, California

That's right, the "island of romance." Located 26 miles from the coast of Los Angeles, Santa Catalina Island is loaded with great spots to hold your wedding or elopement. For larger weddings consider some more formal venues such as the Casino Ballroom, Descanso Beach Club or the Catalina Country Club.

For a smaller wedding, you may want to take a look at The Avalon Hotel, which boasts a roof-to deck with panoramic views of Avalon Harbor. Catalina Island is also a paradise for couples wanting a simple elopement. There are numerous companies which specialize in smaller, more intimate ceremonies, including Weddings By the Sea, which can be reached at 310-510-0436. Another company is Catalina Island Beach Weddings. You can reach them at 310-510-9614.

Theme Parks - Around the United States

Why do we list theme parks as one of the top 7 places for weddings in September? Because in September the weather's great and the kids are back in school. So, the theme parks are usually less crowded. We have a listing of some great theme parks which offer weddings at Theme Park Weddings.
