Weddings in October - Locations and Venues for you to Consider

Need some ideas for wedding locations in October? Whether you're eloping or planning a more formal wedding, here are just a few places you might want to consider:

New England Fall Weddings

If you want an October wedding in the U.S., the first thing that pops into mind is fall colors. And, the New England states (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island) are some of the most popular areas of the U.S. to surround oneself (and one's wedding party) in fall colors. Some great New England spots for October weddings include:

Maine Fall Weddings

One spot that really caught my eye is Sebasco Harbor Resort, located on the Midcoast of Maine on 550 acres. They offer many different venues on the property for your wedding, including the lawn overlooking the harbor, or in the Gazebo surrounded by rose gardens. Indoor venues include The Cornelius Room, featuring large windows which overlook the golf course and lake. The Cornelius Room can accommodate up to 250 people. For those wanting an nice elopement ceremony, Sebasco Harbor Resort offers an elopement package for an additional charge added to your room fee (as of Sept., 2010, this charge was $250) and includes:

  • Wedding site for 2 to 8 people
  • Officiant
  • Wine and cheese platter after the ceremony
  • Flowers in your room after the ceremony
You can get more info about his package, as well as having a larger wedding, by emailing reservations@sebasco.com.

Massachusetts Fall Weddings

What could be more romantic than a lighthouse wedding? Okay, maybe a lighthouse wedding on Martha's Vineyard! There are actually three lighthouses on Martha's Vineyard which allow wedding ceremonies (no receptions, however). They are:

  • Gay Head Lighthouse
  • East Chop Lighthouse
  • Edgartown Lighthouse
The fee for the use of the lighthouses is $300 (as of July, 2009), and reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. The use of tents, portable toilets, or alcohol is prohibited. For more information on reserving one of these lighthouses for your wedding, you can call 508-939-9155 or email: ree@vineyard.net

New Hampshire Fall Weddings

The Monadnock Region of New Hampshire covers the southern part of the state and is known for Mount Monadnock, a great area for hiking. The area is also known for its ponds, covered bridges and beautiful Rhododendron State Park. A couple wedding venues you may like in the area include:

Woodbound Inn in Rindge, NH. on the shores of Lake Contoocook. Woodbound Inn features 120 acres of forest, trails, and lakeside property, including a private beach along Lake Contoocook, and a 9- hold Par 3 USGA golf course. For weddings, the Woodbound Inn offers their private beach for outdoor ceremonies, as well as rooms inside for smaller weddings, as well as the Edgewood Ballroom which can accommodate 180 people. Go to woodbound.com for more details.

Alyson’s Orchard near Walpole, NH. A 500-acre working orchard with several special outside venues, including in the orchard, on a hill overlooking the town of Walpole, and near a pond. Indoors you will find a reception hall for up to 250 guests. They have a wedding planner on site. Find them at weddingsatalysons.com.

Lake Tahoe, California

Yes, there are fall colors in California! And, Lake Tahoe is one of the areas of the state with some nice fall foliage. While there are many spots in Lake Tahoe to wed, you may want to consider exchanging your vows at Emerald Bay on a private cliff edge, or perhaps getting married in a hot air balloon while gliding over the Lake Tahoe area. We have information on this and other Northern California venues at weddings in Northern California.

You may also be interested in saying "I do" at one of the fabulous wineries in the state of California. We list some of them on our page on California Winery Weddings.

Sedona, Arizona

Popular with tourists and New Agers, Sedona is also a great place in Arizona for an October wedding. And there’s no better spot in Sedona than on the banks of the tranquil Oak Creek. Amara Creekside Resort offers elopement ceremonies as well as venues for larger weddings and receptions. You can go to their website for more information - amararesort.com.
