Weddings in West Virginia

It’s no wonder that West Virginia is a beloved wedding destination. The Appalachian Mountains run through the entirety of West Virginia, and it possesses some of the roughest terrain in the United States. The state’s peaks, valleys and waterways are unspoiled in many areas, thanks to the difficulty of developing such rugged land. So, if a beautiful setting is what you're after, West Virginia won't disappoint. Some of the best places for weddings in West Virginia include the following:

Wheeling – Formerly the state capital, Wheeling is West Virginia’s fourth largest city. It is located in the northern panhandle on the banks of the Ohio River, and also includes Wheeling Island, which is located in the middle of the river. This charming city is home to several parks and historical buildings such as West Virginia Independence Hall.

Two of the most popular and elegant wedding facilities, Wheeling Park and Oglebay Resort and Conference Center, are run by the Wheeling Park Commission and they can be reached by calling (304) 243-4000.

Harpers Ferry – Harpers Ferry was once a renowned resort town, but the resorts that survived the Great Depression were swept away by floods. The majority of the town’s land has since been converted into the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.

Prime wedding locations include the pre-Civil War Town’s Inn located in the heart of the town’s historic district and the elegant Hillbrook Inn in nearby Shepherdstown. Just up the river in Shepherdstown is the Bavarian Inn, another luxurious wedding venue.

Beckley – This southern West Virginia city boasts a major ski resort, the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and the Tamarack arts and crafts center. It is also located along the banks of the New River, which is the oldest river in North America.

Beckley offers a variety of potential wedding locations, including the Tamarack Conference Center, the Mountaineer Conference Center and the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.

Snowshoe – Snowshoe Mountain is best known for its spectacular ski slopes. But the area also features a variety of warm weather attractions, including a golf course, mountain biking trails and an annual cross country race.

And in Snowshoe Resort you’ll find several beautiful wedding venues to choose from, including St. Bernard Chapel, the secluded Sunrise Backcountry Hut, the breathtaking Mountain Lodge Lawn and the modern Allegheny Springs Conference Center.

Greenbrier County – This sparsely populated county in the southwest corner of the state abounds with natural beauty, yet it hosts a variety of attractions and events. The award-winning Greenbrier Resort is an ideal location for the wedding of your dreams. Carnegie Hall has a number of spaces for small weddings, and the State Fair Event Center offers all the space you’ll need for a larger ceremony.

From famed historic buildings to pristine natural settings, West Virginia has tons of amazing wedding locations. Finding great venues in the state is easy – the hard part is narrowing it down to just one!
