Get Married in a Charming NC B&B B&B's aren't just charming places to vacation, but many of them double as wedding venues for elopements and smaller weddings. If you desire a B&B in the mountains, you might want to consider Timberwolf Creek Bed & Breakfast, located on 8 wooded acres overlooking Maggie Valley, NC, right there in the Great Smoky Mountains. With a creek flowing next to the B&B, nothing could be more romantic than to have your own private deck overlooking the water. They offer a few wedding packages, from an intimate elopement package to a larger wedding in an outdoor forest wedding chapel which can accommodate 45 guests. They also offer a Destination Wedding package where you rent the entire Creek House for you and up to 6 guests for a week. Brides will love the gingerbread staircase, which serves to highlight their grand entrance. The Old Buggy Inn specializes in small, intimate weddings of 50 guests or under. Go to prioritysailing.com for more information. Lighthouse Wedding Venues in NC Lighthouses are another romantic venue many couples seek. There are several lighthouses you may want to consider for your wedding site. Do keep in mind that you don't often have ceremonies actually inside the lighthouses. Many times you have them on the grounds or in a lighthouse keeper's house. Old Baldy Lighthouse, North Carolina’s oldest standing lighthouse, is located on Bald Head Island, at the mouth of the historic Cape Fear River. Couples can rent the lighthouse grounds for their wedding or reception. You can contact area wedding planners for help in planning your wedding at this lighthouse. For more info, you can email them at info@oldbaldy.org Currituck Beach Light in the Outer Banks was completed in 1875 and was the last brick lighthouse on the Outer Banks. Weddings are held on the grounds of the lighthouse compound for 5 on up to 150 guests. Call the site manager at 252-453-8152 or e-mail: info@currituckbeachlight.com. NCIsland Wedding can help you set up a wedding at the Ocracoke or Cape Hatteras Lighthouses. Their wedding package includes a wedding cake with a lighthouse decoration. You can go to their website at ncislandwedding.com for more details. North Carolina Winery Weddings That's right, you don't have to travel to California for a winery wedding, you can have one in North Carolina! Silver Coast Winery is located in the Ocean Isle Beach NC area, set on 40 acres, 15 minutes inland from the beach and surrounded by woodland. Couples can choose to have their weddings on a private patio, the Art Gallery, or, for a large reception, in their Barrel Room with a stone waterfall. You can email events@silvercoastwinery.com for all the facts. Another winery setting is at the Biltmore House, located in Asheville in the western part of North Carolina, near the Great Smoky Mountains. There you can host a small even in the champagne cellar at their winery, which can accommodate up to 30 guests. Garden Weddings in North Carolina Gardens are right up there with lighthouses when it comes to a romantic setting for a wedding. There are numerous garden venues to choose from. Some standouts include: Orton Plantation Gardens: dates back to 1725 when it was used as a home and rice fields. It is now a wonderful place to visit, with the landscape designed around the 1735 mansion and rice fields, with 20 acres of walking trails. Wedding venues at the Plantation include Luola's Chapel, built in 1915 with seating for 120 people, as well as a couple panoramic Cape Fear River overlooks, which can accommodate from 300 to 750 people. More details at ortongardens.com Arlie Gardens in Wilmington: 67-acres of gardens, with walking trails, views of Bradley Creek, 10-acres of freshwater lakes, and the majestic 462-year-old Airlie Oak. For details on hosting your wedding at this fabulous garden setting email: mtockman@nhcgov.com. Biltmore House: Briefly mentioned under winery weddings, the Biltmore House is an 8,000 acre estate in Asheville, created in 1895 by George Vanderbilt. Not only are there lovely gardens, as well as a winery, but you're in the neighborhood of the Blue Ridge Mountains, giving your guests plenty of outdoor activities nearby. The Biltmore House was a 2008/2009 pick by The Knot for "Best of Weddings." The Biltmore offers couples several spots for their wedding, including the Stable Courtyard & Gardens, which surround the castle. Brides can arrive in a horse-drawn carriage. There is also the Barn in Antler Hill Village, located below a forested hillside. Go to Biltmore.com/weddings for more details. North Carolina Golf Weddings For golf enthusiasts, you have numerous choices of golf clubs and resorts for your wedding. One outstanding area is the Sand Hills region of North Carolina, including the towns of Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen. With 43 golf courses located in the area, there will be many of possibilities, including Pinehurst Resort, which was chosen by The Knot in 2008/2009 for "Best of Weddings." They offer many wedding sites at Pinehurst Resort. My favorite would be the West Lawn gazebo or the Pinehurst Beach Club, with a ceremony at the water’s edge. Brunswick Island is also an area to explore for golf weddings, as there are many fine golf resorts to choose from, many of which offer wedding services. Check out Brunswick Plantation Golf Resort near Sunset Beach, which includes 1,750 acres of woods, lakes and gardens. They offer several outstanding wedding sites, including a grand double staircase ceremony, which offers a fabulous entrance for the bride. There is also a lakeside ceremony site, next to a lake lined with azaleas and trees. Also located on Sunset Beach is Sea Trail Resort, with 54 holes of championship golf. They offer a beach or garden setting, with a couple ballrooms for receptions from 200 to 500 people. Synonyms: NC is synonymous with North Carolina and northcarolina.
