Long Island, New York Weddings Long Island, New York is the largest island in the continental United States, and, some say, the most gorgeous. It is, as the name implies, a long island, stretching for over 100 miles, yet only 12 miles wide from its north and south shores. What strikes one most about Long Island beaches, besides being pretty, is the fine, white sand, perfect for building sand castles, playing volleyball, and, oh, yes, saying "I Do."
